Downtown Charleston Portrait Session

As a Charleston photographer, some of my favorite portrait sessions unfold along the winding streets, historic alleys, and colorful homes of downtown Charleston and around Rainbow Row. Every doorway, garden wall, and centuries-old home has its own character that translates beautifully into images that will last forever.

For this portrait session, Cat from @stuffcatlikes wanted photographs that felt quintessentially Charleston and the morning light absolutely delivered. (Come on so did her dress choices?!) We wandered through the historic district, letting the light and the architecture guide us from one spot to the next. Sun-drenched doorways, cobblestone streets, colorful facades, and tucked-away ivy walls gave us plenty of beautiful places to pause.

I have a handful of locations I've collected over the years that I know will photograph beautifully, but every single session is different! We will wander, look for the good light, and stop whenever something catches our eye. That’s part of what makes Charleston portrait photography so much fun: there’s always a new corner, a different quality of light, or an unexpected little detail that makes the photographs feel entirely their own.
