A Dreamy Proposal at Kiawah River in Charleston

As a Charleston photographer, there’s something so special about witnessing the exact moment a couple’s next chapter begins, and Baylee & Rene’s proposal at Kiawah River was pure magic.

After a week of rain, the sun made a spontaneous appearance for our entire evening and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Beneath the sweeping oak trees, with golden light spilling through the branches and wisps of Spanish moss moving in the breeze, Rene got down on one knee.

And Baylee said yes!

Afterward, we wandered along a nearby path, giving them a little time to soak it all in: the excitement, the disbelief, the feeling of knowing that everything had just changed. Surrounded by hundred-year-old lowcountry oaks and soft evening light, it felt like the perfect way to let the moment last just a little bit longer.

Just as the sun began to set over the marsh, a pink roseate spoonbill flew right in front of us, almost as if to wish them goodnight. We had been hoping to spot one, and as it glided by us on this quiet path by ourselves, we all held our breath for a moment realizing this night couldn't have gone more perfectly.

What a joy it is to capture these fleeting, beautiful moments at the very beginning of a new chapter. Cheers to Baylee & Rene—and to the rest of your lives together!

Here's to that "just engaged" feeling!
